To endure, resist, and reclaim agency amidst rupture, we return to the archetypal roots of Ukrainian cultural identity. Across centuries of Ukrainian folk ornamentation, mythology, and sacred iconography, the Eye has operated as a sovereign talisman of protection, vigilance, and truth—from embroidered protective codes to the All-Seeing Eye of traditional frescoes.
In this series, the Eye transcends passive observation to become an active somatic instrument of survival and confrontation. Each piece functions simultaneously as an amulet and a conceptual archive of psychological endurance.
It is terrifying to gaze directly into chaos, war, loss, and mortality. Yet the core imperative of resilience is refusing to avert one’s gaze. Fear possesses its own gaze; confronting it is an existential standoff over who looks away first. In the reflection of collective memory, the gaze of those we have lost remains embedded within us—fueling our capacity to endure, witness, and construct the future.
